Season Overview
The South Korea national team competed in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany under manager Dick Advocaat. They were drawn in Group G, where they secured a victory against Togo and a draw against eventual finalists France, but were eliminated in the group stage after a defeat to Switzerland. Following the World Cup, Pim Verbeek took over as manager, leading the team to the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, where they finished in third place.
Key Players
Forward Ahn Jung-hwan, wearing the number 9, was a notable member of the squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where he scored a winning goal against Togo. Other key players during this vintage football shirt era included Manchester United's Park Ji-sung, Lee Young-pyo, and Lee Chun-soo. For the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, captain Lee Woon-jae, Kim Do-heon, and Cho Jae-jin were prominent figures in the squad.
