Season Overview
The 1996-97 season saw Bayern Munich, under manager Giovanni Trapattoni, clinch their 13th Bundesliga title, finishing two points ahead of Bayer Leverkusen. They also reached the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal, but experienced an early exit from the UEFA Cup in the first round. In the subsequent 1997-98 season, Bayern Munich secured the DFB-Pokal, beating MSV Duisburg 2-1 in the final, marking their first DFB-Pokal title since 1986. However, they finished as Bundesliga runners-up to newly promoted 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The team also reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they were eliminated by rivals Borussia Dortmund.

During these seasons, the team was managed by the legendary Giovanni Trapattoni. Key players included goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, influential midfielder Mehmet Scholl, and prolific striker Jürgen Klinsmann. Other notable figures were Lothar Matthäus, Christian Ziege, and Markus Babbel.
