Season Overview
The 2014 season saw Cerezo Osaka compete in the J.League Division 1, where they finished 17th and were relegated. The club also participated in the AFC Champions League, reaching the Round of 16. In domestic cup competitions, Cerezo Osaka reached the Quarter-finals of the J.League Cup and the Round of 16 in the Emperor's Cup. The team was managed by Ranko Popović, Marco Pezzaiuoli, and later Akio Kogiku and Yuji Okuma during the season.
Key Players
Yoichiro Kakitani, wearing the number 8, was a key forward and attacking midfielder for Cerezo Osaka during the 2014 season before his transfer to FC Basel in July. Other notable players in the squad included Uruguayan international Diego Forlán, midfielder Hotaru Yamaguchi, young talent Takumi Minamino, and goalkeeper Kim Jin-Hyeon.
