The 2007-08 season saw Chelsea finish as runners-up in the Premier League, mounting a strong title challenge that went down to the final matchday. The club reached its first-ever UEFA Champions League Final, ultimately losing to Manchester United. Chelsea also reached the League Cup Final, where they were defeated by Tottenham Hotspur. José Mourinho began the season as manager, but Avram Grant took over in September 2007.
