Season Overview
Under manager Glenn Hoddle, England qualified for the 1998 World Cup in France. After finishing second in their group, they faced Argentina in the Round of 16, where they were eliminated in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw. Hoddle was dismissed in early 1999 during the qualifying campaign for Euro 2000.
Key Players
The squad for the 1998 World Cup featured captain Alan Shearer, alongside Teddy Sheringham and an 18-year-old Michael Owen in attack. The midfield was anchored by David Beckham, Paul Ince, and Paul Scholes, with a defence that included stalwarts like Tony Adams, Sol Campbell, and goalkeeper David Seaman.
