Season Overview

During the 1994-96 period, the Japan national team saw a transition in management, with Brazilian legend Falcão in charge for 1994 before Shu Kamo took over from 1995. As defending champions, Japan automatically qualified for the 1996 AFC Asian Cup. At the tournament, they won all their group stage games but were unexpectedly eliminated in the quarter-finals after a 2-0 loss to Kuwait.

This era featured some of Japan's most iconic players as they continued to build their presence on the world stage. The squad included legendary forward Kazuyoshi Miura, influential midfielder Ruy Ramos, and defensive stalwart Masami Ihara.
