Season Overview
The Japan national team had a significant period between 2010 and 2012, beginning with their participation in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa under coach Takeshi Okada. They progressed from the group stage, marking the first time an Asian team achieved this feat in a World Cup held outside Asia, before being eliminated in the Round of 16. Following the World Cup, Alberto Zaccheroni took over as head coach, leading Japan to victory in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, where they defeated Australia in the final to secure a record fourth continental title. This triumph also earned them a place in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Key Players
During this era, defender Atsuto Uchida notably wore the number 6 jersey for Japan, featuring in both the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2011 AFC Asian Cup squads. Other prominent players included attacking midfielder Keisuke Honda, prolific forward Shinji Okazaki, experienced midfielder Yasuhito Endo, and defensive stalwart Makoto Hasebe.
