Season Overview
The 1998 season was a period of significant success for Jubilo Iwata under manager Valmir Louruz. The club finished as runners-up in the J.League, having won the first stage of the competition. Jubilo Iwata also secured the J.League Cup (Yamazaki Nabisco Cup) title. Furthermore, their strong performance extended to continental competition, as they went on to win the 1998-99 Asian Club Championship, a tournament that concluded in April 1999.
Key Players
The squad featured several prominent players, including Masashi Nakayama, who was the J.League's top goalscorer and MVP for the season. Brazilian midfielder Dunga, a former national team captain, provided a strong presence in midfield. Other key contributors included Japan internationals Hiroshi Nanami, Toshiya Fujita, and Daisuke Oku.
