Season Overview
During the 1999-2000 season, Manchester City, managed by Joe Royle, secured automatic promotion to the Premier League by finishing runners-up in the Football League First Division with 89 points. However, their return to the top flight in the 2000-2001 Premier League season saw them finish 18th with 34 points, resulting in relegation back to the First Division.
