The Mexico national team had a busy 2007, reaching the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup where they were defeated 2-1 by the United States. Under manager Hugo Sánchez, El Tri also secured a third-place finish at the Copa América, notably beating Uruguay 3-1 in the bronze medal match.
