Season Overview
The 2002-03 season was a historic period for the Senegal national football team. They reached the final of the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations, ultimately finishing as runners-up after a penalty shootout against Cameroon. Later that year, Senegal made their debut at the FIFA World Cup, where they famously defeated reigning champions France in the opening match. Under manager Bruno Metsu, Senegal advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup, becoming only the second African team to achieve this feat.
Key Players
Key players during this memorable era included the influential forward El-Hadji Diouf, midfielder Papa Bouba Diop, and captain Aliou Cissé. Khalilou Fadiga was also a prominent figure in the squad, alongside goalkeeper Tony Sylva. These players were central to Senegal's impressive performances on the international stage, creating a truly iconic vintage football shirt.
