Season Overview

The Turkey national football team achieved a historic third-place finish at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, defeating co-hosts South Korea 3-2 in the third-place playoff. Manager Şenol Güneş was recognized as the best manager in the UEFA Team of the Year 2002. In the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup, Turkey also secured third place, defeating Colombia 2-1 in the playoff. However, they failed to qualify for Euro 2004, which led to Güneş's dismissal.
