Season Overview

Turkey finished second in their UEFA Euro 2004 qualifying group, failing to qualify for the tournament. For the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, they finished second in Group 2 behind Ukraine. Turkey then lost to Switzerland on away goals in the play-offs, thus not qualifying for the 2006 World Cup. Ersun Yanal managed the team from April 2004 to June 2005, before Fatih Terim took over in 2005.

Key Players

Key players during this period included prolific striker Hakan Şükür and attacking midfielder Nihat Kahveci. Emre Belözoğlu was a central figure in midfield, while Tuncay Şanlı contributed crucial goals, including a hat-trick in the World Cup play-offs. Legendary goalkeeper Rüştü Reçber was also a prominent member of the squad.
