Season Overview
Under the management of Mark McGhee, Wolverhampton Wanderers had a strong 1996-97 season in the Football League First Division, finishing in third place. Their promotion hopes were ultimately dashed in the play-off semi-finals, where they were defeated by Crystal Palace. The club exited the FA Cup in the third round and the League Cup in the first round.

The squad featured a number of memorable players, including club legend and top goalscorer Steve Bull, who netted 23 league goals that season. Other key members of the team included Iwan Roberts, Dean Richards, and Keith Curle.
