Season Overview

The USA national football team, managed by Steve Sampson, finished third in the 1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup after reaching the semi-finals. They also competed in the 1996 U.S. Cup, where they finished second in the round-robin tournament behind Mexico. The U-23 team, with overage players, participated in the Atlanta Summer Olympics but did not advance past the group stage.
