Season Overview

The 2011-12 season saw Manchester United, under manager Sir Alex Ferguson, mount a strong challenge for the Premier League title, ultimately finishing second on goal difference to local rivals Manchester City. The team began the campaign by winning the FA Community Shield. In European competition, United exited the UEFA Champions League at the group stage, subsequently competing in the UEFA Europa League where they reached the Round of 16. Domestically, they were knocked out in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup and the Fifth Round of the League Cup.

Key Players

Javier "Chicharito" Hernández, wearing number 14, was a key attacking player for Manchester United during this vintage football shirt season, signing a new five-year contract in October 2011. The squad also featured prominent players such as top scorer Wayne Rooney, veteran Ryan Giggs, creative midfielder Nani, and winger Antonio Valencia. Paul Scholes also notably came out of retirement to rejoin the team mid-season.
