The 2004-05 season was a challenging one for Parma, as they narrowly avoided relegation from Serie A, finishing in 17th place. They secured their top-flight status through a play-off victory against Bologna. In European competition, Parma reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, ultimately losing to CSKA Moscow.
