Season Overview

Under manager Alex McLeish, the 2005-06 season was a mixed one for Rangers. The club finished third in the Scottish Premier League, behind Celtic and Hearts. In domestic cups, they reached the quarter-finals of the League Cup and the fourth round of the Scottish Cup. However, Rangers made history in the UEFA Champions League by becoming the first Scottish team to reach the knockout stages, where they were eliminated by Villarreal on away goals.

Key Players

The squad featured a blend of experience and emerging talent. Key figures included captain Barry Ferguson in midfield, the versatile Fernando Ricksen, and formidable striker Dado Pršo. Goalkeeping duties were shared between Stefan Klos and Ronald Waterreus, while Kris Boyd arrived mid-season to become the team's top league goalscorer.
