Season Overview
As the host nation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, South Africa automatically qualified for the tournament under the management of Carlos Alberto Parreira. They drew their opening match 1-1 with Mexico, lost their second match 3-0 to Uruguay, and won their final group stage match 2-1 against France. Despite their victory, they were eliminated in the group stage, becoming the first host nation to exit at that phase of the competition.
Key Players
The Bafana Bafana squad was built around a core of experienced players. Key figures included captain Aaron Mokoena, Everton's influential midfielder Steven Pienaar, and Fulham's Kagisho Dikgacoi. Siphiwe Tshabalala memorably scored the tournament's opening goal, while Katlego Mphela and Bernard Parker led the attack.
