Season Overview
The 2007-08 season was a dominant one for Bayern Munich, as they secured a domestic double by winning both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal. Under returning manager Ottmar Hitzfeld, the team led the league from the very first matchday. In European competition, they reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup before being eliminated by Zenit Saint Petersburg. The following 2008-09 season saw a second-place finish in the Bundesliga and a quarter-final exit in the UEFA Champions League at the hands of eventual winners Barcelona.
Key Players
The squad featured a formidable attack with Luca Toni, who was the Bundesliga's top scorer in 2007-08, alongside Franck Ribéry and Miroslav Klose. The 2007-08 season was also the last for legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn. Ottmar Hitzfeld managed the 2007-08 campaign, while Jürgen Klinsmann began the 2008-09 season before being replaced by Jupp Heynckes on an interim basis.
