Season Overview
The 1996-97 season saw Borussia Mönchengladbach compete in the top tier of German football, the Bundesliga, where they finished in 11th place. The team had a change in management mid-season, with Bernd Krauss being replaced by Hannes Bongartz in December 1996. In cup competitions, they reached the second round of both the DFB-Pokal and the UEFA Cup.
Key Players
The squad featured influential midfielder Stefan Effenberg, who was the team's top assist provider. Key forwards included Martin Dahlin, the team's top goalscorer for the season, alongside Andrzej Juskowiak and Jörgen Pettersson. The team was managed by Bernd Krauss for the first part of the season, with Hannes Bongartz taking over for the second half.
