Season Overview

The 1996-97 season was a frustrating one for Celtic, who finished second in the Scottish Premier Division behind rivals Rangers. Under the management of Tommy Burns, the team reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, only to be knocked out by Falkirk. Their Scottish League Cup campaign ended in the quarter-finals at the hands of Hearts.

Key Players

The squad featured a potent attacking force with Jorge Cadete finishing as the league's top scorer, supported by Pierre van Hooijdonk and the mercurial Paolo Di Canio. The team was captained by club legend Paul McStay in his final season, with key contributions from players like Alan Stubbs, Jackie McNamara, and Andreas Thom.
