Season Overview
The 1996-97 season saw FC St. Pauli compete in the Bundesliga, Germany's top flight. The club finished 18th in the league with 27 points, resulting in their relegation. Ulrich Maslo managed the team for the majority of the season, from July 1994 to April 1997, before Klaus-Peter Nemet took over for the final matches. In the DFB-Pokal, St. Pauli had a notable run, reaching the quarter-finals where they were eliminated by Energie Cottbus after a penalty shootout.
