Season Overview
The 2016 season marked FC Tokyo's 16th year in the top-flight J1 League. The club finished 9th in the J1 League standings. FC Tokyo also competed in the AFC Champions League, where they advanced from the group stage to the Round of 16. Domestically, the team reached the semi-finals of the J.League Cup (also known as the J.League YBC Levain Cup) and the quarter-finals of the Emperor's Cup. The season saw a managerial change, with Hiroshi Jofuku initially in charge before Yoshiyuki Shinoda took over in July.
