Description

Season Overview

The 1994 season for the French national team was a period of transition and rebuilding following the dramatic failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in the USA. Under manager Gérard Houllier, France was eliminated in the final seconds of their last qualification match against Bulgaria in November 1993. Aimé Jacquet took over as manager in 1994, beginning a long unbeaten streak and laying the groundwork for future success.

Key Players

The era featured a squad brimming with talent, led by captain and Manchester United star Eric Cantona. Key figures from the 1993-94 period included Jean-Pierre Papin, Marcel Desailly, Laurent Blanc, and a young Didier Deschamps who would later captain the side. Following the qualification disappointment, new talents like Zinedine Zidane and Lilian Thuram were introduced to the national team during 1994.
