Season Overview

This period saw France enter the 2002 World Cup as reigning world and European champions under manager Roger Lemerre, only to be eliminated in the group stage without scoring a single goal in one of the tournament's biggest shocks. Under new manager Jacques Santini, the team qualified for Euro 2004 and topped their group, but were surprisingly knocked out in the quarter-finals by eventual winners Greece.
