Description

Season Overview

In the 2002 Chinese Jia-A League season, Liaoning competed under the name Liaoning Bird. The league implemented a no-relegation policy to support the China national team's preparations for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. For the 2003 season, the club was known as Liaoning Zhongshun and finished 6th in the Chinese Super League. Dimitar Penev managed the team for part of 2003, with Ma Lin also taking charge later in the 2003-04 period.

Key Players

Notable players during this period included midfielder Zhao Junzhe, who was part of China's 2002 FIFA World Cup squad while playing for Liaoning. Midfielder Li Tie was also listed as a Liaoning player in China's 2002 World Cup squad. In 2003, defensive midfielder Lü Gang represented Liaoning Zhongshun. Xing Chen also joined Liaoning in January 2003.
