Description

Season Overview

Under manager Alex McLeish, Scotland entered the 2007-08 period with high hopes of qualifying for Euro 2008. The team was in a formidable group with both of the 2006 World Cup finalists, Italy and France. Despite famous victories, including a memorable 1-0 win in Paris, Scotland narrowly missed out on qualification, finishing third in the group after a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Italy at Hampden Park in their final match.

Key Players

This era featured a squad of established talent and rising stars. The team was captained by Barry Ferguson and included Manchester United's Darren Fletcher in midfield. Key players like James McFadden, who scored the winning goal against France, were crucial, alongside regulars such as goalkeeper Craig Gordon, defender Gary Caldwell, and striker Kenny Miller.
