Description

Season Overview

Under manager John Gregory, and later Graham Taylor who took over in January 2002, Aston Villa secured a solid 8th place finish in the Premier League. The club also won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in the summer of 2001, but their UEFA Cup journey ended in the first round. Villa exited the FA Cup in the third round after a defeat to Manchester United.

Key Players

The 2001-02 squad featured the legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel in his only season with the club. Key figures included Swedish defender Olof Mellberg, midfielders George Boateng and Ian Taylor, and the attacking duo of Juan Pablo Ángel and Darius Vassell, who were the team's top scorers.
