Colombia competed in the 2018 FIFA World Cup under manager José Pékerman, topping Group H before being eliminated in the Round of 16 by England after a penalty shootout. For the 2019 Copa América, Carlos Queiroz took over as manager. The team had a strong group stage performance, winning all three matches and not conceding a goal, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Chile following a penalty shootout.
