Season Overview
The 2006-07 season saw Liverpool secure a 3rd place finish in the Premier League. The club's most notable achievement was reaching the UEFA Champions League final in Athens, where they were ultimately defeated 2-1 by AC Milan. Liverpool began the season by winning the FA Community Shield with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea. In the domestic cups, the team was eliminated from the League Cup in the quarter-finals and the FA Cup in the third round.
Key Players
Managed by Rafael Benítez, the side was captained by Steven Gerrard, with Jamie Carragher as a constant presence in defence. The attack was led by Peter Crouch, who was the club's top scorer across all competitions, and new signing Dirk Kuyt, who finished as the top scorer in the league. Other key members of the squad included Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina, and Sami Hyypiä.
