Season Overview
The Netherlands co-hosted UEFA Euro 2000, where they delivered strong performances throughout the group stage, winning all their matches and topping Group D ahead of France. Under coach Frank Rijkaard, they advanced to the semi-finals but were eliminated by Italy. Following Euro 2000, the team entered qualification for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Despite a talented squad, the Netherlands finished third in their qualification group behind Portugal and the Republic of Ireland, and consequently did not qualify for the 2002 World Cup.

During this period, the Netherlands squad featured a host of renowned players. Edwin van der Sar was a prominent goalkeeper. The defense was anchored by Jaap Stam and Frank de Boer.
