Season Overview

Under manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, this period was a strong one for Portugal, reaching the semi-finals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup before being defeated 1-0 by France. They were ultimately beaten 3-1 by hosts Germany in the third-place playoff. Following this, the team successfully qualified for Euro 2008, where they reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated by Germany.

This era featured the "Golden Generation" in their final stages, with icons like Luís Figo playing alongside a rising Cristiano Ronaldo. The squad was packed with talent, including Deco, Pauleta, Simão, and defensive stalwarts like Ricardo Carvalho. Newer talents such as Nani, Ricardo Quaresma, and Pepe also began to establish themselves in the national team during this time.
