Real Madrid finished the 1997-98 La Liga season in 4th position. Under manager Jupp Heynckes, the club achieved a historic victory in the UEFA Champions League, defeating Juventus 1-0 in the final to secure their seventh European Cup title. In domestic cup competitions, Real Madrid reached the Round of 16 in the Copa del Rey and were winners of the Supercopa de España.
