Season Overview
In the 2004-05 season, Rot-Weiss Essen competed in the 2. Bundesliga, the second tier of German football, having achieved promotion in 2004. The club finished the season in 17th place, which resulted in their relegation back to the Regionalliga. Jürgen Gelsdorf managed the team for the majority of the season, with Uwe Neuhaus taking over towards the end.
