Season Overview
Sunderland competed in the Football League First Division during the 2003-04 season, finishing 3rd in the league table. Under manager Mick McCarthy, the club reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup, where they were defeated by Millwall. In the League Cup, Sunderland exited in the Second Round after a loss to Huddersfield Town. Their promotion hopes ended in the play-off semi-finals, losing to Crystal Palace on penalties after a 4-4 aggregate draw.

The squad featured key players such as top goalscorer Marcus Stewart and Kevin Kyle, who contributed significantly to the team's efforts. Other notable players included Julio Arca and Mart Poom. The shirts for this season were manufactured by Nike and prominently displayed the Reg Vardy sponsor.
