Season Overview
The 1996-97 season was a challenging period of transition for AC Milan following their previous league title win. The campaign began with a 2-1 defeat to Fiorentina in the Supercoppa Italiana. The club ultimately finished in a disappointing 11th place in Serie A and was eliminated in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. This season also marked the end of an era, as it was the final one for club legends Franco Baresi and Mauro Tassotti before their retirement.
Key Players
The season started with manager Óscar Tabárez, who was replaced by Arrigo Sacchi in December. The squad featured iconic players such as Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi, Alessandro Costacurta, and Roberto Baggio. Liberian striker George Weah was the team's top goalscorer for the season.
