Season Overview

The 2008-09 season was a significant one for Adelaide United, as the club competed in the A-League, AFC Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup. In the A-League, the Reds finished second in the regular season with 38 points. They advanced to the A-League Grand Final but ultimately lost 1-0 to Melbourne Victory. Internationally, Adelaide United achieved a remarkable feat by reaching the final of the 2008 AFC Champions League, where they were runners-up to Gamba Osaka. This strong continental performance earned them a spot in the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup, where they secured a commendable fifth-place finish.
