Season Overview
The 1990-91 season saw a significant change for Aston Villa as Jozef Vengloš took charge, becoming the first manager from outside the UK or Ireland to manage a top-tier English club. After finishing as runners-up the previous season, the team dropped to 17th place in the First Division. In the 1991-92 season, Ron Atkinson took over as manager and guided the team to a much-improved 7th place finish. The club also competed in the UEFA Cup during the 1990-91 campaign, reaching the second round.
Key Players
Under the management of Jozef Vengloš and later Ron Atkinson, the team featured several key players across the two seasons. Notable figures in the squad included top scorer David Platt, defender Paul McGrath, and the emerging Dwight Yorke. New signings during this period, such as Dalian Atkinson and Steve Staunton, also played important roles.
