Season Overview

Aston Villa competed in the Premier League during the 1997-98 season, ultimately finishing in 7th place. Brian Little managed the team until February 1998, when John Gregory took over. Under Gregory, Villa climbed from 15th to secure a UEFA Cup qualification spot via the UEFA Respect Fair Play ranking.

Key Players

Dwight Yorke was the top goalscorer for Aston Villa, netting 12 league goals. Key players included Gareth Southgate, Ugo Ehiogu, and goalkeeper Mark Bosnich. A young Gareth Barry also made his debut for the club that season.
