Season Overview
The 2002 season was a difficult one for Consadole Sapporo in the J.League Division 1. The club struggled for consistent results against strong opposition and ultimately finished in 16th place, resulting in their relegation back to the J2 League. In domestic cup competitions, their campaign in the J.League Cup ended in the group stage, and they were knocked out in the third round of the Emperor's Cup. This season marked the club's second relegation to the second tier of Japanese football.
Key Players
The team saw several managerial changes during the season, starting with Tetsuji Hashiratani, who was later replaced by Radmilo Ivančević and then Chang Woe-Ryong. On the pitch, key players included forward Takafumi Ogura, who finished as the team's top goalscorer. The squad also featured midfielders like Koji Yamase and future Japan international Yasuyuki Konno.
