The 1995-96 season was a period of significant achievement for Corinthians. In 1995, under manager Eduardo Amorim, the club secured their first-ever Copa do Brasil title, defeating Grêmio 3-2 on aggregate in the final. They also claimed the Campeonato Paulista, the São Paulo state championship, by overcoming fierce rivals Palmeiras with a 3-2 aggregate victory, with Elivélton scoring the decisive goal in extra time of the second leg. Their Copa do Brasil triumph earned them a spot in the 1996 Copa Libertadores. In the 1996 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Corinthians finished in 12th position. The club also reached the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil in 1996, where they were eliminated by Cruzeiro.
Key Players
The squad featured prominent figures such as Marcelinho Carioca, who scored in both the 1995 Copa do Brasil and Campeonato Paulista finals. Striker Viola also played a crucial role, scoring in the Copa do Brasil final and featuring in the Paulista final before his farewell match. Goalkeeper Ronaldo Giovanelli, a club legend, and midfielder Zé Elias were integral parts of the team during this successful period.
