Season Overview
The Germany national team, managed by Berti Vogts, achieved significant success during the 1996-98 period, most notably winning UEFA Euro 1996 in England. Germany triumphed over the Czech Republic 2-1 in the final with a golden goal from Oliver Bierhoff in extra time, marking their third European Championship title and the first major competition decided by a golden goal. They then defeated Croatia 2-1 in the quarter-finals and hosts England 6-5 on penalties in the semi-finals after a 1-1 draw. Following their Euro 1996 victory, Germany successfully qualified for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, finishing first in their qualification group with 22 points, having won 6 matches and drawn 4, without a single loss.
