The Germany national football team participated in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, hosted in Germany, reaching the semi-finals before being defeated by Italy. In the 2005-06 Bundesliga season, Bayern Munich were crowned champions, with Miroslav Klose finishing as the top scorer. The team also competed in qualifiers for the UEFA Euro 2008 tournament during the 2006-07 period.
