In the Coppa Italia, their journey ended in the quarter-finals, and as defending champions in the UEFA Cup, they were knocked out in the first round.
Key Players
Key figures in the squad included goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca, who joined for a world-record fee, and captain Giuseppe Bergomi. The attack was led by Uruguayan forward Rubén Sosa and Dutch international Dennis Bergkamp, with support from midfielders Nicola Berti and Wim Jonk.
