Season Overview

The 1998-99 season for Liverpool FC began with Roy Evans and Gérard Houllier as joint managers, a partnership that concluded in November 1998 with Houllier taking sole charge. The club finished seventh in the Premier League and reached the Fourth Round of both the FA Cup and League Cup, while also competing in the UEFA Cup, reaching the Third Round. Under Houllier's full management in the 1999-00 season, Liverpool finished fourth in the Premier League, securing qualification for the following season's UEFA Cup. They also reached the Fourth Round of the FA Cup and the Third Round of the League Cup.

Key Players

During these seasons, key players for the vintage Liverpool FC squad included prolific forwards Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler. Midfield stalwarts Jamie Redknapp, Steven Gerrard, and Patrik Berger were central to the team. The 1999-00 season saw the arrival of significant defensive reinforcements in Sami Hyypiä and Stéphane Henchoz, alongside midfielder Dietmar Hamann, who all became integral to the team.
