Season Overview

The 1996-97 season saw Liverpool FC, managed by Roy Evans, mount a strong title challenge, leading the Premiership for much of the campaign and establishing a five-point lead before New Year's Day. Despite this promising start, the team ultimately finished fourth in the Premier League with 68 points, missing out on a Champions League spot. Liverpool also reached the semi-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup that season.

Key Players

This era's squad featured prolific striker Robbie Fowler, who was the top goalscorer with 31 goals across all competitions. He formed a potent partnership with Stan Collymore, who scored 17 goals. Midfield talents like Steve McManaman and new signing Patrik Berger were also instrumental, making these the team's match socks from that memorable season.
