Description

Season Overview

The 2011-12 season marked Manchester United's 20th campaign in the Premier League under manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The club finished second in the Premier League, level on points with champions Manchester City, but ultimately lost out on goal difference. United began the season by winning the FA Community Shield against local rivals Manchester City. In European competition, they exited the UEFA Champions League in the group stage, subsequently competing in the UEFA Europa League where they reached the Round of 16. Domestically, Manchester United reached the Fourth Round of the FA Cup and the Fifth Round of the League Cup.

Key Players

Ashley Young joined Manchester United in the summer of 2011 and wore the number 18 shirt, making an immediate impact in his debut season. He contributed with goals in the Premier League, including two in an 8-2 victory over Arsenal, and also scored in the Champions League and Europa League. Key players in the squad included Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Nani, Paul Scholes, David De Gea, Rio Ferdinand, and Patrice Evra.
