Season Overview

Nagoya Grampus experienced a significant period during the 1996 and 1997 seasons. Under manager Arsène Wenger, who departed in late 1996 for Arsenal, the club finished as J.League runners-up in 1996 and secured the 1995 Emperor's Cup, with the final played in January 1996. They also won the Super Cup and the inaugural J.League Champions Cup in 1996. The 1997 season saw Carlos Queiroz take over as manager, with the team finishing 9th in the J.League and reaching the J.League Cup semifinals, wearing this classic jersey.

Key Players

During this era, Dragan Stojković was a pivotal figure, having been named J.League MVP in 1995. Yasuyuki Moriyama was a consistent goalscorer for the club across both seasons. Other notable players in this vintage football shirt included Takafumi Ogura and Takashi Hirano, who both scored in the 1995 Emperor's Cup final. Defenders Go Oiwa and Kazuhisa Iijima were also key members of the squad.
