Season Overview
A turbulent season on Tyneside saw the club finish 15th in the Premier League, securing their survival on the final day with a victory over West Ham. The campaign included a run to the quarter-finals of the League Cup, which featured a notable away victory against Manchester City before being eliminated by Tottenham Hotspur. In the FA Cup, the club was knocked out in the Third Round by Leicester City. A mid-season spell of six consecutive wins, which included ending Chelsea's 23-match unbeaten run, was a high point in a difficult campaign.
Key Players
Alan Pardew began the season as manager before departing in January, with John Carver taking over for the remainder of the campaign. The squad included captain Fabricio Coloccini, top goalscorer Papiss Cissé, and key midfielder Moussa Sissoko. New signings for the season included Ayoze Pérez, Jack Colback, and Rémy Cabella.
